Runcorn State School is a delightfully diverse community nestled in Sunnybank. The students are bright, passionate, friendly and imaginative. At Runcorn we would love to create some natural play spaces for the students across different grades to express their individuality and creativity at lunch time; as nature is one of the best places for students to learn. Children innately reap huge benefits as they grow a connection and appreciation with their natural environment. Nature play significantly improves students’ physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. It further fosters resilience, problem solving, self-confidence, creativity and initiative. It encourages the thrill of movement; it nurtures wild imaginations and experimentation. It helps to solidify friendships, social connections and improve behaviour. For younger students it is also a beneficial tool for understanding and expressing their feelings through the re-enactment of certain experiences. Taking on roles that encourage discipline and empathy. With the $1000, we would be able to create various nature play areas throughout the school; where students can participate in construction, build cubbies, create delightfully imaginative fairy kingdoms or recreate the lost world of the mysterious dinosaurs. The opportunities are endless! Thank you for this opportunity! 😊
You have my vote Runcorn! What a wonderful way to foster a love of nature. The benefits are many and include connection with others, increasing resilience and the ability to negotiate risks. The physical and mental benefits are proven to reduce stress, depression and mental fatigue as well as improving gross motor skills.
